Business plan

Business Plan is a written document that details a proposed or existing venture. Business plan seeks to capture the vision, current status, expected needs, defined markets and projected results of the business


Call-back Interview

An in-depth interview process which is usually held at the potential employers? office after first-round interviews ("screening interviews") have taken place. These interviews usually last several hours and employers will meet with different individuals throughout the morning or afternoon. Lunch or dinner with representatives of the potential employer may be included as well.


Career Assessment

The process of measuring vocational aptitude, career interest and academic and vocational achievement. It may also include such factors as work history, physical capacity, work values and temperament. Career assessment may be accomplished through formal, standardized instruments or through informal means such as interviews or observing work samples.


Career Exploration

The process of finding a rewarding career path, as well as specific jobs within a particular career path. Think of career exploration and planning as building bridges from your current job/career to your next job/career.


Career Guidance & Counseling

It means program that: - (A) pertains to the body of subject matter and related techniques and methods organised for the development in individuals of career awareness, career planning, career decision-making, placement skills, and knowledge and understanding of local, State, and national occupational, educational, and ongoing market needs, trends and opportunities; - (B) assists individuals in making and implementing educational and occupational choices; - (C) helps potential employees develop career options with attention to surmounting gender, race, ethnic, disability, language or socio-economic impediments to career options and encouraging careers in non-traditional employment."


Career Paths

Clusters of occupations/careers that are combined together because the people in them share similar interests and strengths. All paths include a variety of occupations requiring different levels of education and training.


Career planning

The purpose of career planning is to enable job seekers to plan and follow a flexible course of action that will lead to self-sufficiency and a satisfying career.


Cover Letter

Should accompany your CV when you contact a potential employer. A good cover letter opens a window to your personality (and describes specific strengths and skills you offer the employer). It should entice the employer to read your resume.


Curriculum Vitae (C.V.)

Written summary of your educational qualifications, employment history, skills and relevant unpaid community service. There are different types of CV:
- Chronological CV - CV organized by your employment history in reverse chronological order, with company/job titles/accomplishments/dates of employment
- Functional CV ? CV organised by skills and functions; bare-bones employment history often listed as a separate section.
- Combined CV


E-consultant

A person who is an expert in one or more products or subjects and offers specialised knowledge to help the customer. On receiving a request the e-consultant will present a viable solution in the form of a Net Conference or a dialogue with the customer or even in the form of documents.


E-consulting

A query-based consulting service, operated via internet. Through e - consulting a customer from any part of the world can avail effective and valuable consulting support.


E-learning

The delivery of learning, training or education program by electronic means. It involves the use of a computer or electronic device (e.g. a mobile phone) in some way to provide training, educational or learning material. It can involve a greater variety of equipment than online training or education, for as the name implies, "online" involves using the Internet or an Intranet. CD-ROM and DVD can be used to provide learning materials.


Employee

An individual who is compensated for services performed and whose duties are under the control of an employer.


Minimum Qualifications

Usually these are the requirements that must be met to be considered for a position. For example, they may include certain education degrees, experience, proficiencies and licenses. When there is a large number of applicants, the interviewer may not select all candidates that meet the minimum requirements for interviews.


Networking

Involves developing a broad list of contacts -- people you've met through various social, professional, and business functions -- and encouraging them assist you in looking for a job. People in your network may be able to give you job leads, offer you advice and information about a particular company or industry, and introduce you to others so that you can expand your network.


Recruitment agencies

Professionals who are paid by employers to find candidates for specific positions. They often recruit candidates, but job seekers can also approach them. Often specialise by industry or geographic region. Avoid any firms that require you to pay for their services.


Screening Interview

The 20 or 30-minute on- or off-campus interview is the first round of a two, or more, part interview process. Termed the ?screening interview?, interviewers will interview up to 25 candidates per interview day and then select a small number of students to visit the organisation for a more in-depth interview termed the ?call back interview.?


Self-assessment

An evaluation of one's own abilities and failings, the ability of the client to observe, analyse, and judge his performance on the basis of criteria and determine how to improve it.


Skill Assessment

The process of measuring performance against a set of standards (through examination, practical test, performance observation and/or the completion of portfolios of work and assignments)


Temporary Agencies

Companies that place workers in jobs on a contract or temporary basis. Some provide training. Many are specialised (professional, clerical, computing, accounting, etc.).


Thank You Letters

After every interview, you should send a letter thanking the person who interviewed you. It?s just common courtesy, and only a small percentage of jobseekers actually perform this crucial ritual, so you'll stand out from the crowd.
